Glass Media Player

Mixed Punch Labs / public beta

Every frame, exactly where you asked.

Click 3:40 and you land on 3:40, not on a keyframe five seconds earlier. Glass Media Player drives FFmpeg directly from native code: one self-contained executable, no installer, no runtimes, no codec packs.

Drag the bar, or focus it and press to step one frame at a time. The amber tick is where a keyframe-seeking player would actually land. That gap is the whole reason this player exists.

Three principles, no exceptions.

Clean

No clutter, no wasted resources. A player, not a platform: the controls that earn their place and nothing else.

Minimal

Built from the ground up in native code. One self-contained binary per platform, using only the libraries your OS already ships.

Complete

Everything expected to work, works, and works accurately. You should never need a second tool to finish the job.

Small player, serious playback.

Roughly eight megabytes, and it decodes what the big installs decode.

Frame-precise seeking

Every seek lands on the exact frame: scrubbing, jumping, and arrow-key stepping alike. Approximate seeking is not implemented, on purpose.

Modern codecs HEVC / 10-BIT / VFR

High bit depth, variable frame rate, and anamorphic video displayed at its true shape rather than squeezed.

Real ASS/SSA typesetting

Embedded fonts, karaoke timing, animated moves, and layered z-order, rendered natively without libass.

Image subtitles PGS / VOBSUB / DVB

Bitmap subtitle tracks decoded and positioned exactly against the video, down to the pixel.

Bit-perfect audio WASAPI EXCLUSIVE

Exclusive-mode output delivers samples to your DAC untouched, and audio realigns to the video sample-exactly after every seek.

Frame export and file inspection

Save any frame as a PNG with subtitles composited, and read a full technical report on the open file.

Download the beta.

No installer and no account. Unzip it, run it, delete it if you hate it.

A macOS build is in final verification and joins the beta shortly. Windows may warn that the download is uncommon: the beta is not code-signed yet, so choose Keep, then More info and Run anyway.

What we would love you to break.

Playback is feature-complete for everyday use. Before 1.0 it needs to meet files we would never think to test.

  • Your strangest files: odd containers, variable frame rate, timelines that start past zero, half-finished downloads.
  • Seeking, relentlessly. Scrub hard, step frames, jump repeatedly near the very end of a file.
  • Subtitle-heavy releases with typeset ASS tracks and embedded fonts.
  • Unplugging your audio device or switching outputs mid-playback.
